Overview

What Parq Vancouver actually is

Parq opened in 2017 as a piece of city architecture that happens to contain a casino, and that ordering matters. The complex holds 517 rooms across two hotel brands — one full-service, one boutique — six restaurants and bars, a spa, 60,000 square feet of event space and a landscaped park on the sixth-floor roof, all wrapped around a gaming floor that occupies two levels near the base.

The location is unmatched for an urban trip. It sits beside BC Place and Rogers Arena, a fifteen-minute walk from Yaletown, Gastown and the seawall, in the middle of the densest part of downtown Vancouver. Nobody comes to Parq and stays inside the building, and the property is designed with that assumption.

The gaming floor is the weakest element relative to the rest, and by some distance the most expensive city to visit in. Room rates track downtown Vancouver, not casino hotel norms, and parking downtown is punitive. Everything else — rooms, food, the roof — is best-in-class.

The casino floor

Slot machines, table games and the high roller rooms

The two-level floor carries roughly 75 table games and around 600 slot machines, a ratio weighted more heavily toward tables than any other property in this guide except River Rock. Blackjack, roulette, baccarat, pai gow and the carnival games all run, with the upper level quieter and given over to higher limits.

Baccarat is well represented and the high-limit salons on the upper level are genuinely private — separate entry, separate cage, dedicated hosts and 24/7 VIP service for the top loyalty tiers. This is the most discreet high roller environment in Canada; it is designed to be invisible from the main floor.

The poker room runs cash games and a modest tournament schedule; it is smaller than River Rock's and the Vancouver poker crowd tends to split between the two. Slot players are the least well served here — 600 machines in a downtown footprint means a narrower selection than any other property scoring above 8.5 on this list.

Rooms, amenities and how the property lives

The rooms are the best of any casino hotel in Canada, full stop. The full-service tower delivers proper four-star city rooms with floor-to-ceiling glass over the stadium district and the North Shore mountains beyond; the boutique brand next door is smaller-scale, darker and more designed. Both are quiet, both are well finished, and neither feels remotely like a casino hotel.

The sixth-floor park is the property's signature: a full acre of landscaped outdoor space with lawns, trees and a terrace bar, sitting on the roof of the podium between the two hotel towers. There is a spa and a fitness centre, and the event floor is among the busiest in the city — expect conference traffic on weekdays.

Dining

Restaurants and bars

Six restaurants and bars, and the standard is genuinely high: a modern steakhouse, a Japanese room, a French-leaning brasserie, a casual all-day room and two bars including the one on the park terrace. Prices are downtown Vancouver prices. The park bar on a clear evening, with the mountains across the water, is the single best drink in any Canadian casino hotel.

Entertainment

Shows, venues and what happens after dinner

There is no theatre on site, and there does not need to be one. Parq sits between BC Place and Rogers Arena — Canada's two busiest large venues on the west coast — and the entire downtown live music, theatre and restaurant scene is a short walk away. The property programmes lounge music and seasonal events on the park, and lets the city do the rest.

Two days here

How we would spend the stay

  • Day one, afternoon

Check in, then straight up to the sixth-floor park before the light goes. Walk the seawall from Yaletown afterwards.

  • Day one, evening

Dinner at the Japanese room or the steakhouse, then the upper gaming level, which is quieter than the main floor.

  • Day two, daytime

Gastown, Granville Island or Stanley Park — everything is within twenty minutes and none of it is at the property.

  • Day two, evening

Whatever is on at Rogers Arena or BC Place next door, then a late drink on the park terrace.

Assessment

Pros and cons

What works

  • The best hotel rooms of any casino property in Canada, across two distinct brands
  • A one-acre landscaped park on the sixth-floor roof, with the best terrace bar in the category
  • Six restaurants at genuine downtown Vancouver standard
  • Walking distance to BC Place, Rogers Arena, Yaletown and the seawall

What does not

  • Only about 600 slot machines — the thinnest slot floor of any top-tier property here
  • Downtown Vancouver pricing on rooms, food and especially parking
  • No theatre or entertainment venue of its own
Verdict

Our conclusion

The casino hotel to book when the city is the point and the gaming floor is the evening option. Parq has the best rooms, the best food and the best outdoor space in the category, and a floor that is strong on tables and thin on slot machines. Take transit, skip the car, and spend an hour on the roof.
