Hard Rock Casino Vancouver
#10 in our Canadian ranking · Coquitlam, British Columbia

Hard Rock Casino Vancouver

A well-programmed 1,000-seat theatre attached to a comfortable suburban gaming floor, thirty minutes east of downtown Vancouver on the SkyTrain.

Best for

A show. The theatre here books better than the property's size would justify, and the floor is a comfortable place to spend the rest of the evening.

Overview

What Hard Rock Casino Vancouver actually is

The Coquitlam property took the Hard Rock brand in 2013 and rebuilt itself around a theatre, and that decision defines it. The 1,000-seat Molson Canadian Theatre books touring musicians and comedians at a rate well above what a suburban casino would normally sustain, and on show nights the whole building lifts.

The gaming floor behind it is solid and unremarkable: around 1,000 slot machines, roughly 60 tables, a high-limit room and a sports lounge, laid out in a single large hall with better sightlines than most properties of this vintage. It is comfortable, it is rarely oppressive, and it does not aspire to be a destination.

There is no hotel. That is the fundamental limitation and the reason the score sits where it does — Coquitlam has chain hotels within a few minutes' drive, but nothing connected, and the property cannot hold you for a weekend. Treat it as an evening out from Vancouver rather than a stay.

The casino floor

Slot machines, table games and the high roller rooms

Around 1,000 slot machines cover the main current titles with progressive banks and a reasonable denomination range. The cabinets have been refreshed since the rebrand and the floor does not feel dated, though the selection is narrower than at River Rock or the Ontario properties.

Roughly 60 table games run blackjack across a moderate limit range, roulette, baccarat, pai gow and the carnival rotation. Minimums are lower than downtown Vancouver, which makes this the better Metro Vancouver floor for a cautious evening. Professional dealers are relaxed and the pit is not intimidating.

Poker is thin — house-banked variants and occasional live tables rather than a real room. The sports lounge is decent and busy on fixture nights. The high-limit room is functional rather than luxurious; anyone wanting a proper VIP salon should be at Parq or River Rock instead.

Rooms, amenities and how the property lives

No accommodation on site. Coquitlam Centre and the surrounding area carry a set of mid-range chain hotels within a five to ten minute drive, and rates across the board are substantially lower than downtown Vancouver — often by half for a comparable room.

The practical alternative is not to stay at all. The Evergreen Extension of the SkyTrain reaches Coquitlam Central in about forty minutes from downtown, which makes this a viable evening trip without a car and without a room. For most visitors that is the better plan.

Dining

Restaurants and bars

Four or five outlets: an American-diner-styled main restaurant carrying the Hard Rock house style, a buffet, a noodle counter and bars including one attached to the theatre. Standards are decent and the pricing is fair, particularly against downtown Vancouver. Nothing here justifies the drive on its own, but the pre-show dinner works.

Entertainment

Shows, venues and what happens after dinner

The theatre is the property. Around 1,000 seats, a strong sightline from almost everywhere, and a calendar of touring musicians, comedians and tribute acts that runs several nights most weeks. Ticket prices are reasonable and the room is small enough that the back row is still a good seat — a genuinely better live music experience than most larger casino venues manage.

Two days here

How we would spend the stay

  • Evening, early

SkyTrain to Coquitlam Central, then a short taxi. Eat at the property before the show rather than after.

  • Evening, main

The theatre — check the calendar before choosing a date, because the property is a different place on a show night.

  • Evening, late

The floor after the show empties into it. Table minimums are lower than downtown and the pit is patient.

  • Next day

Nothing here. Head back into Vancouver, or east to the Fraser Valley if you have a car.

Assessment

Pros and cons

What works

  • A 1,000-seat theatre with a calendar far better than the property's size would suggest
  • Lower table minimums than downtown Vancouver, with a patient and unintimidating pit
  • Free parking and reachable from the city without a car
  • Comfortable single-hall layout with good sightlines

What does not

  • No hotel on site — the property cannot hold a weekend
  • No real poker room and a merely functional high-limit area
  • Suburban setting with nothing of interest within walking distance
Verdict

Our conclusion

Go for the show. Hard Rock Vancouver is the best small live music room attached to a Canadian casino, with a comfortable floor and honest pricing behind it. Take the SkyTrain, book a theatre ticket first, and stay in Vancouver rather than Coquitlam.
